The Kathleen Marian Garrigan Leadership Fund honors the life of Kathleen Garrigan by providing two $1,000 awards to individuals between the ages of 17-25 who plan to participate in OR have successfully completed participation in 2008/2009 domestic community service project.Projects may include building homes, restoring natural places, working in underdeveloped communities or providing tutoring or mentoring support for needy children and youth.Candidates for this award are graduating seniors and high school and college graduates who have an uplifting attitude and a desire to serve others, one’s community and one’s nation.Applicants are required to complete a brief application and finalists will interview in person with the Kathleen Marian Garrigan Scholarship selection committee.After completion of the program, the award recipient will be required to communicate their experiences with the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation through a written report.
Award Amount: $1,000
Purpose: To be awarded upon completion of an extended (2 months or more) domestic service project such as Ameri-corps as an assistance to young adults during the transition time between the program and school/ work.
Eligibility: Young adults between the ages of 17 and 24 who have been accepted into or have successfully completed a domestic service program such as Ameri-Corp. This scholarship is NOT limited to Oak Park, Forest Park or River Forest residents.
